Create an Action Plan

The first column lists the five core propositions created by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards . Use these as a tool to begin writing what goals you want to accomplish and jot down ideas of how best you will achieve those goals.   Finally, indicate what evidence will show whether or not you are successful.  

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards What do I want to be able to do professionally? How best will I accomplish those goals?   How will I know I was successful?
Teachers are committed to students and their learning. They understand how students develop and learn. They work to develop the whole-child and they are respectful of individual students. They treat students equally and fairly.    I want to create three new instructional units that  are interdisciplinary. I want to attend a work-shop or conference to learn about social and cognitive development inadolescents.    Work with team membersto create units. Integrate field trips into each unSign-on to the school's viritual newsletter to fiworkshop. Apply through administrator and take notes during meeting.    Team members   will observe and provide feedback on teach inWill be able to write a journal activity  outlining what I learned in workshop or conference.

Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. They are able to find  connections with other subjects within the curriculum. They help students develop critical thinking capacities.

1) I want to study three historical events in-depth to include in my lessons.

2) I want to continue integrating other subjects into my lessons. 		1) Using the internet and worldstrides.org, I will develop three units tha focus on three key historical events from Washington, DC. 1) My students will demonstrate knowledge about in-depth topics in American history.

 Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. They usea variety of instructional settings and methodology to meet the needs of all students. They are adept at assessing the progressof individuals or whole class.

 1) I want to be able to assess students using a variety of techniques, including using discussion formats of inquiry-based questioning. 1) Observe several peers to focus on various techniques for assessment.

2) I will practice in the field on my WorldStrides trip to Washington, Dc. 		1) My evaluator will observe me on the topic of assessment.

2) My students will be able to succeed in using various assessment strategies.
Teachers think systematically  about their practice and learnfrom experience. They are role models and frequently examine their own practice. They learn, develop, and deepen their knowledge about the subject and methodology within their class.    1) I want to take my experience of a WorldStrides trip and be able to present to fellow colleagues. 1) I will prepare and practice a 30 minute presentation to the staff at my school about my WorldStrides program to highlight my own professioanl development. 1) The staff in my school will provide feedback to me about the presentation, focusing on content, and delivery methods.
Teachers are members of  learning communities.   They  work collaboratively with others in the education profession.They also find ways to work with parents and engage in the  local, national, or international community.    I want to
1) become more  comfortable working with parents;
2) learn new ways to incorporate critical  inquiry into my classroom and
3) develop new ways to integrate real world lessons into my students' lives.   		 Participate in a WorldStrides program. Plan a trip for students, hold parent meetings, and use the WorldStridere sources to develop lessson plans.    Plan an observationby my mentor  teacher to check forinquiry questioning, critical thinking development, and  incorporation of leadership.
